Where can I setup the UNIT?
Anywhere you have a reachable secure overhead attachment point. Common anchor setups include monkey bars, door pull up bars, swing sets, fitness racks and cable stations.
When is the right age to start exercising with my children?
All children are different and they develop in various stages. You should consult a physician prior to your child engaging in any new physical activity program. Most children who take part in a physical education program at school should be able to perform certain exercises with the UNIT. It is important as an adult to understand your own comfort level and apply youth recommendations appropriately. Exercises listed in the manual have been rated for youth and adult programs. Do not allow children to attempt any exercises if you are not 100% comfortable with them doing it.
What is Functional Training?
Functional Training is the phrase that describes physical exercises that promotes or encourages natural movement and kinesthetic awareness. All exercises can have a degree of function but functional training exercises focus on safe, fluid movement combined with balance and strength. Functional exercises are normally compound movements that require multiple muscle groups to perform the movement. This style of training better benefits youth and adults alike as it carry’s over into many of the outdoor activities we do.
What is Body Leverage Training?
B.L.T. is a method of physical training in which you utilize your body weight and gravity to produce the resistance for a exercise or stretch. By placing yourself in a variable position you can adjust the resistance at any time during a movement. B.L.T. allows for safe instruction for many exercises simply because they can be practiced in their easiest form.
What is Load Transfer Training?
Load Transfer training is a method of resistance training in which you re-distribute or ‘transfer’ the resistance from one side of your body to the other. This technique supports many outdoor tasks in addition to improving resistance awareness and proprioception.
What is the weight limit on my TruFit system?
Your anchor point will determine the weight limit! The weakest part of the UNIT is 7.5-8Kn. 1Kn is equal to approx. 225lbs. So each individual side could support around 1,687.5 lbs or 3,375lbs if using both handles. The weight limit on your anchor structure may be less. Always double check your anchor structure to ensure it can safely support the users full body weight. Do not use any component of this system for climbing, rappelling, rescue or in any way as not described in this manual.
What other setup options are there?
The UNIT works through a closed door although this limits the number of exercises able to be performed and can damage the nylon webbing which will then void the warranty. Tree branches also can provide an ideal setup if proper tree protection and weight limits are in place. Additional anchoring ideas and solutions are available online.
How do I get my child to exercise?
Do it in front of them. When youth see an adults exercising in front of them they often are interested and willing to participate if the opportunity presents itself. Incorporate training into your daily routine and allow youth to explore and mimic the exercises they see you performing.
What exercises should my child avoid?
Children should avoid any exercise that they feel uncomfortable performing and should avoid full body weight exercises like the hanging Dip. Children should not attempt any exercise in which they cannot perform the easier version with proper form. (Example: do not attempt Flat Pushups before proficient with the Chest Press). Children should avoid any exercise that the supervising adult is not comfortable or unable to perform.
Is exercise dangerous?
Absolutely, all exercise programs have an inherent danger to them and TruFit Training is no exception. Although safety precautions have been taking to ensure device integrity individuals assume the risk for themselves and their children. Start every exercise in its easiest form and progress when you feel your body is prepared for a greater challenge. Do not force exercise on a child and do not allow youth to workout to a point of failure. Parent supervision and participation is required.
I feel my muscles shaking, is this normal?
Hello new muscles! When learning exercises like the Plank and Pushup it is important to understand that a certain amount of joint stability must be present to smoothly execute the movement. As the stabilizer muscles grow stronger the in-stability or shaking you feel will go away and your joints will appreciate a new level of strength. This is often present early on in the shoulders and deep core muscles and will improve once all the players are back to work.
How do I adjust the handle?
Pull down on the front strap to raise the handle. To lower the handle, hold the buckle by its sides pull the back strap away at a 90 degree angle. If the handle is attached to the Ring simply unclip the carabiner and attach it to the long strap. The self-locking buckle provides a safe, non-slip adjustment option and encourages adult participation. The majority of exercises can be performed with the handles set at 4-18 inches off the ground.

What about cardio?
Cardiovascular training is an important compliment to your outdoor fitness program. Participation in outdoor sports many times provides a cardiovascular effect but this may not be enough. If you need additional cardio for performance or weight loss goals then aim for 20-60 minutes, 3-6 days per week. Focus on high intensity interval training or HIIT for short workouts and weight loss. Stick to longer aerobic workouts to improve your heart, lungs and cardiovascular base. Also, almost any resistance workout can become a cardio session if you decrease the rest intervals and focus on compound movements like squats and pushups.
Additionally look to your activities to provide solid cardio training. Traversing a wall or pumping around the bike park often provides a better cardio workout than what’s inside the gym. Find the ways you can work cardio sessions into your life by getting out and exploring your planet.
